Merchant Taylors’ Girls’ School has maintained the exceptional standards seen since the turn of the millennium with 70% of all candidates gaining A* and A grades.
Headmistress Louise Robinson has hailed her teaching staff for their continuing pursuit of excellence. “Once an outstanding level of academic achievement has been reached the task is to maintain such high standards year on year, she said.”
Mrs Robinson added: “The key to our sustained success has been to combine academic rigour with compassionate pastoral care, ensuring our girls are fully supported as they learn to deal with the issues facing all teenagers.”
An astonishing 29% of all candidates achieved a clean sweep of A* and A grades and an amazing eight candidates A-ced all 9 exams; Elizabeth Bramhall, Fehn Chua-Short, Sarah Harding, Amy Hitchen, Shilan Jmor, Philippa Makepeace, Karen Pinto and Nicole Whalley were in seventh heaven as they opened their envelopes.
Results in Religious Studies were particularly pleasing with 15 A* among the 22 candidates in this optional subject. Head of Department Michelle Dodds said: “Religious Studies is not seen as a soft option but a fascinating choice. The girls’ success demonstrates their concern with learning more about our multi faith society and the true values and beliefs of world religions.
