2020vision Merchants Connected ArchivesGreek Club
All girls who study Classical Studies in the Yr 9 follow an introductory course in Ancient Greek as part of their syllabus and take a level 1 certificate as part of their end of year examination. For those who have not had this opportunity or who wish to take their study of Greek further, there is a lunchtime Greek Club. This year the Classics Department has offered girls the opportunity to learn Greek at three different levels in three separate sessions. We have followed a course certificated by the East Midlands Association of Classical Teachers and many girls have followed the course as a skill for the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Those studying at level 1 have been introduced to the Greek alphabet, the Greek numeral system and derivations used in English. Those studying at level 2 have translated Greek into English and studied some literature. Two girls have completed their third year of study during the lunchtime sessions and have done remarkably well to achieve level 3 with such a limited amount of teaching time. Well done to all who have participated this year.
