School Health Service
SCHOOL HEALTH SERVICE
The School Health Service is available to all pupils attending
Merchant Taylors’ Schools. Its aim is to help your children to keep healthy and happy so that they can enjoy and benefit from their education.
At Merchant Taylors’ we have a School Nurse on site. A highly qualified and experienced professional children’s nurse, who keeps up to date with current health issues and has an important role in promoting the health and safety of your child.
Within each school, we have a Medical Room which the School Nurse attends on different days of the week. She is contactable for advice at all times. All the Medical Rooms are ‘open’ throughout the school day from 0830 – 1630 hours. The School Nurse provides basic first aid and also gives simple medication such as pain killers, which are ‘age’ appropriate. In the School Nurse’s absence the staff whom are qualified in ‘First aid at work’ will provide first aid and look after your child.
As part of the Pastoral team, the School Nurse contributes to the Health Education, is involved in the development of health related policies and also develops Individual Health Care Plans for those pupils with medical concerns.
The School Nurse is also available to offer help, advice and a listening ear to all our pupils and staff, and is available either on a ‘drop in’ basis at lunchtimes or by appointment. She also assists with Reception screening, Year 8 HPV vaccination programme and the Year 10 immunisation programme (in line with Sefton Primary Care Trust’s schedule).
