A SHOW ENTIRELY MADE FROM RECLAIMED MATERIALS FROM TUESDAY JANUARY 12TH TO FRIDAY FEBRUARY 12TH 2010
Merchant Taylor's Girls School is delighted to be hosting the first retrospective of legendary underground Liverpool artist Mike Badger. Mike, a founder member of cult band, The La's has dedicated his life to the creative process through his music and art. This exhibition offers the opportunity for everyone to see the imaginative potential of everyday objects and discover once more those ‘lost magic kingdoms'...
The Vitreum continues it's ambitious programme of exhibitions showcasing in depth the emerging and established talent of artists working in the North West. Leading artists such as Tony Evans and Anthony Brown have reached a wide audience via this unique large and dynamic gallery space situated in the hub of Merseyside's most famous and successful school.
..." it is that silent message that shouts from the use of found materials that really excites me. Seeing two things simultaneously to me is a form of magic- is it a tin can or a car? Is it a brick or an ancient Celtic figurine? Is it an oil can or an African mask? Sometimes -as in life, all you have to do is simply stand something on its head to reveal a completely new identity. Anything that makes us question the world in which we live has an important validity, a consumer society that leaves a trail of waste behind it, ready for reinterpretation, an indulgent and excessive world, begging to become reclaimed, again recognized and presently yearning to be saved."
Mike Badger (January 2010)
