Reaching for Success Sculptures
Anyone connected with Merchant Taylors is now being offered the opportunity to own one of the inspirational bronze sculptures who is literally ‘Reaching for Success', the largest of which has taken permanent residence in the Mulberry Garden. Artist Tony Evans' initial inspirational sketch, a girl 'reaching for success' whilst draped in cloth [with reference to the Merchant Taylors' origins in clothing] forms the basis for the work which sums up the aspirational, ambitious and creative culture of the girls' school.

Parents, current and ex-pupils and members of the wider School Family can own one of a limited edition of 24 inch sculptures, priced at £3000, or a smaller 12 inch sculpture, priced at £1750. These would be produced to order and commission from the proceeds would be used to fund future capital projects within the Schools. The first 25 orders will also receive a signed limited edition print of the original sketch.
We are hoping that parents and pupils will appreciate this opportunity to own an outstanding example of contemporary sculpture by a local artist whose work is becoming increasingly renowned, whilst at the same time having a stunning reminder of the ethos of Merchant Taylors' Girls' School.
The girls chose Tony's final piece from a short list after seeing his first sketches and a wire 3D model. There was also a successful exhibition of his sculptures within the girls' school during the 2007 Autumn Term.
Tony works in both copper and bronze and his distinctive style and techniques are instantly recognisable and eminently collectable as demonstrated by the increasing demand for his work. As Tony's aspirational sculptures have become increasingly sought after in the last year, his commissioned work has dramatically 'taken off' and he is currently completing a commission of a full-size Pegasus for the city centre. He has also created sculptures for the Lever-Faberge collection at Ellesmere Port, a large bronze for David Wilson Homes and another for the English Partnership.
