Community Service

Here at MTGS we have a strong tradition of voluntary work in the wider community and we encourage pupils to use their skills and talents to help others. Sixth Formers undertake Community Service each Wednesday afternoon in a wide range of placements. These include:

  1. Assisting in primary schools
  2. Working with young people with special needs
  3. Helping in charity shops
  4. Working with the Stroke Association
  5. Helping on the wards in a hospital
  6. Coaching rowing
  7. Helping at Age Concern Lunch Club

Each year our Sixth Formers carry out over 6,000 hours of voluntary service and some have achieved national recognition for their efforts. All girls can participate in the V-inspired programme and gain awards for 50, 100 and 200 hours of service. Our pupils recognise that they derive a great deal of satisfaction from the work they do, and in many cases this experience helps them to decide their future career path. They also develop a range of important skills through their placements, which will be invaluable as they progress to university and the world of work.
