The Harrison Group

In the Lower Sixth the girls are asked if they would like to belong to a special group of students called ‘The Harrison Group'. This provides an enrichment programme for the more able sixth formers who would like to expand their interests beyond the ‘A' level curriculum and enjoy learning for its own sake.
Activities include:
- Presentations after school on a variety of fascinating subjects.
- A choice of study groups from Scientific Studies, Current Affairs, Debating Group, Book Group, and Thinking Skills.
- Talks prepared by the girls on a subject of their choice.
- The opportunity to attend Masterclasses on a variety of topics.
Once they join the group the girls are expected to make a commitment to be fully involved in the activities and we are always open to suggestions for other events.
Harrison Group Dinner 2010
The Harrison Dinner took place on the evening of Tuesday March 9th and was attended by 58 members of the Upper Sixth, 10 members of staff and 2 Governors, Mrs Beverley Bell and Miss Anne Dobie. Drinks and canapés were served from 7pm and dinner commenced at 7.30pm, after Grace was said in Latin by Miss Alexandra Schofield, Head Girl. The Dining Room had been transformed with candles, flowers, art work and magnificent panoramic photographs of Liverpool which had been taken by our Caretaker, Mr Frank Meaney. The girls looked fantastic in their cocktail dresses and rose admirably to the challenge of a formal dinner.
A delicious 5 course dinner was served by our wonderful catering staff, ably led by Mrs Sarah Ford, and was followed by coffee and mints. Miss Nikki Whalley spoke eloquently about the many opportunities afforded by membership of the Harrison Group. Miss Elizabeth Bramhall gave an excellent Vote of Thanks to all concerned.
Sadly, this was the last Harrison Group event for the Upper Sixth as they now prepare for their final A2 examinations. The girls were delighted to receive a brooch depicting the Harrison Group logo which will be a permanent reminder of Sixth Form life.

Presentation by Mr Coligan
Mr Leo Coligan, Merchant Taylors' Chair of Governors, spoke to our Lower Sixth in January 2010 in the Library. The girls were delighted to be address by Mr Coligan and had many questions for him after the talk.
