The Sixth Form Harrison Group

The Harrison Group in the Sixth Form continues the provision of stretch and challenge and membership is by self selection. This means that most of the Sixth Form girls are involved! As well as a termly programme of workshops and events, the girls choose to join 1 or 2 of the study groups on offer: Thinking Skills, Scientific Studies, Debate Group, Book Group and Current Affairs. There is a ‘Keynote Lecture' each term by a distinguished academic or public figure where attendance is compulsory.

The Harrison Dinner is now an annual tradition for the Upper Sixth where the girls are expected to adhere to the etiquette of formal dining. This is a most popular event and the girls always rise to the occasion. Grace is said (in Latin!) speeches are made and toasts given. Sixth formers are presented with a Harrison brooch to mark their involvement in the Harrison Group.

Mr Leo Coligan, Merchant Taylors' Chair of Governors, spoke to our Lower Sixth in January 2011 in the Library. The girls were delighted to be addressed by Mr Coligan and had many questions for him after the talk.

Harrison Group Dinner 2010

The Harrison Dinner took place on the evening of Tuesday March 9th and was attended by 58 members of the Upper Sixth, 10 members of staff and 2 Governors, Mrs Beverley Bell and Miss Anne Dobie. Drinks and canapés were served from 7pm and dinner commenced at 7.30pm, after Grace was said in Latin by Miss Alexandra Schofield, Head Girl. The Dining Room had been transformed with candles, flowers, art work and magnificent panoramic photographs of Liverpool which had been taken by our Caretaker, Mr Frank Meaney. The girls looked fantastic in their cocktail dresses and rose admirably to the challenge of a formal dinner.
A delicious 5 course dinner was served by our wonderful catering staff, ably led by Mrs Sarah Ford, and was followed by coffee and mints. Miss Nikki Whalley spoke eloquently about the many opportunities afforded by membership of the Harrison Group. Miss Elizabeth Bramhall gave an excellent Vote of Thanks to all concerned.
Sadly, this was the last Harrison Group event for the Upper Sixth as they now prepare for their final A2 examinations. The girls were delighted to receive a brooch depicting the Harrison Group logo which will be a permanent reminder of Sixth Form life.
