Over the course of the next few weeks, you will receive guidance and help from a number of sources to help you make your selection of GCSEs. This is the first time you will take responsibility for your subject choices, and make decisions that will influence the next stages of your education and your future career.
Every girl has to take five or six compulsory GCSE subjects : English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Science (either as three separate sciences or Trilogy (2 GCSEs)). They then choose three or four optional subjects but at least one must be a Language and one should be a Humanity. You will need a good grounding in these subjects, regardless of which particular course you may go on to take at Higher Education. This provides a balanced programme of study that ensures that, after GCSE, you will still have the chance to study sciences, languages, humanities, creative or technical subjects to A level. It keeps the doors open so that you can develop your own interests and have a wide choice of careers.
