Music

Music is a vibrant and integral part of Sixth Form life at Merchant Taylors’. Our extensive co-curricular programme offers pupils the opportunity to enrich their academic journey through creative expression, performance, and leadership.

Whether performing on world-renowned stages or supporting younger musicians within the School, our Sixth Formers develop confidence, discipline, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts. Music at Merchant Taylors’ is about more than performance, it is about personal growth, collaboration, and joy.

Our provision provides a stage for every musician:

• Ensembles & Choirs: Pupils can join a variety of groups including choirs, orchestra, instrumental ensembles, and the Joint Schools’ Band.
• Performance Opportunities: Sixth Formers regularly perform at prestigious venues such as the Royal Albert Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall, St George’s Hall, Liverpool Philharmonic Hall, Merchant Taylors’ Hall in London, and local community spaces.
• Annual Music Competition: A highlight of the musical calendar, showcasing talent across all year groups.

We also offer leadership opportunities:

• Music Captain & Vice Captain: Sixth Formers can take on leadership roles, supporting the Director of Music and mentoring younger pupils.
• Music Committee: A platform for pupils to organise, promote, and lead musical events, developing valuable skills in event planning and teamwork.

Our music programme is inclusive, ambitious, and inspiring; designed to nurture talent at every level and celebrate the power of music to bring people together.
