Reception Pupils Celebrate Chinese New Year

The children in Reception had a wonderful week welcoming the beginning of the New Lunar Year of the Tiger.

We have discovered many facts about China, recreating the Great Wall in our Construction Area, and used a variety of information sources to find out how the start of each new year is celebrated. The children decided they wanted to experience some of these traditions first hand and so had opportunities to make dragon masks, race their dragon boats, explore writing their name with Chinese symbols, make lanterns, lucky money envelopes and even have a go at some Tai Chi!

Our special celebration day also saw the children trying out some ribbon dancing and tasting some exotic fruits before enjoying a bowl of noodles and a fortune cookie. What a wonderful week! Gong hei fat choy!
