International Gymnastic Success for Caitlyn

Caitlyn Kavanagh has been achieving fantastic success with her gymnastics this year and has recently returned from 2016 Gymstars International Competition where she medalled both individually and within her team.

Caitlyn started gymnastics at 5 years old and began doing competition gymnastics when she was around 8 years old. In July 2014 she moved to The City of Liverpool Gymnastics Club, based in Toxteth.  Caitlyn has been working extremely hard with the club, competing in Artistic gymnastics, which for females involves four pieces of apparatus; Bars, Beam, Floor and Vault.

On Sunday 25th September 2016 Caitlyn took part in the North West Individual Championships and achieved 2nd on bars, 2nd on floor and came 2nd overall in her category. Following this success, she took part in the Cheshire and Merseyside 4 Piece competition in November and achieved 1st on Vault, 1st on Bars, 2nd on Floor and 4th on Beam.  These triumphs rewarded Caitlyn with 1st place overall meaning she is the Cheshire and Merseyside 4 piece Champion 2016 for her category.

On Friday 18th of November 2016 Caitlyn travelled to Malta and took part in Gymstars International Competition 2016.  It was a team competition and she participated in a team of 5. There were 18 clubs taking part including teams from the Czech Republic, Zagreb, Spain, UK, Wales, Bulgaria, Slovenia and Australia. Caitlyn medalled individually, getting a Silver on Vault; and her team came overall first in their category, winning the Gymstars International 2016.

These are fantastic achievements for Caitlyn who is currently in year 8, we wish her all the best in her future competitions!
