Science (Year 7 & 8)

In Years 7 and 8, pupils are taught Science as an integrated subject. In doing so, pupils are challenged to examine the interconnection between the three disciplines, understand the fundamental principles that underpin them, and develop their ability to work scientifically. This exciting approach makes learning more relevant to real life, encourages critical thinking and enhances pupils’ problem-solving skills.

Every half-term, pupils’ focus on a new theme or “big question”; they explore topics related to these themes from across the three Sciences and are challenged to make connections between them. The innovative curriculum has been designed carefully to ensure pupils cover topics from all three disciplines in sufficient depth, to transition to GCSE content, whilst developing a more holistic scientific understanding.

From Year 9, pupil transition to Science taught as individual subjects (Biology, Chemistry and Physics). Pupils’ study all three Sciences to GCSE as either Separate Sciences (three GCSEs) or Trilogy (double award, two GCSE).
