CCF

The Combined Cadet Force (CCF) at Merchant Taylors’ is one of the largest and most active contingents in the North West, with over 260 pupils from Year 9 upwards taking part each week on a voluntary basis. Open to both boys and girls, the CCF offers a unique opportunity to develop leadership, teamwork, and resilience through a wide range of adventurous and practical experiences.

Weekly training takes place on Thursday evenings and is led largely by senior cadets, supported by experienced adult staff. This pupil-led structure fosters responsibility, confidence, and a strong sense of community. Cadets also have the chance to attend a variety of camps and specialist courses throughout the UK and overseas, further enriching their experience.

Activities include mountaineering, camping, sailing, flying, and shooting, all designed to challenge and inspire. Whether pupils are looking to build confidence, explore new interests, or prepare for future leadership roles, the CCF provides a supportive and exciting environment in which they can grow.
A highlight of the year is our CCF Inspection Day, a celebration of the cadets’ achievements and a proud moment for the whole school community. It reflects the energy, commitment, and camaraderie that make our CCF so successful.

The CCF belongs to its cadets, and it is their enthusiasm and leadership that make it such a vibrant and valued part of school life.
