Library

The library at Merchant Taylors’ is more than just a quiet place to study, it is a vibrant, welcoming space where pupils of all ages can explore ideas, discover new interests, and develop a lifelong love of reading. Open before and after school and throughout the day, it supports both academic learning and personal enrichment.

Equipped with a wide range of up-to-date resources and digital tools, the library plays a key role in supporting the school curriculum. Whether pupils are researching for a project or simply enjoying a good book, they are encouraged to read for both work and pleasure.

Our collection is as diverse as our pupils’ interests, from The Simpsons comics to Dostoevsky, from graphic novels and The Phoenix to the latest titles by Derek Landy and Cressida Cowell. Oxbridge candidates can delve into the Everyman Classics, while new Year 7s can ease into reading with accessible and engaging fiction.
For those who want to share their love of books, our reading groups offer a space to connect with like-minded peers. These groups are open to all, including Sixth Formers, regardless of whether they study English, and provide a relaxed environment to explore literature together.

The library is a place where curiosity is encouraged, ideas are shared, and every pupil can feel inspired to learn and grow.
