Drama
Drama at Merchant Taylors’ is a long-established and vibrant part of Sixth Form life, offering pupils the opportunity to express themselves, collaborate creatively, and develop valuable performance and leadership skills. The drama programme is inclusive, ambitious, and deeply enriching, supporting personal development alongside academic achievement.
Each year, dozens of Sixth Formers take part in our highly anticipated productions. These large-scale performances offer opportunities not only for acting, singing, and dancing, but also for pupils to take on key technical and creative roles such as stage management, lighting and sound operation, prop making, make-up, and front-of-house responsibilities.
We offer a rich programme of performance and participation including:
• Major Productions: Sixth Formers lead in Autumn and Spring Term shows, as well as the Summer Drama Festival.
• Merchant Taylors’ Theatre Company: A platform for collaborative, pupil-led performance and creative exploration.
• Technical Theatre: Opportunities to develop backstage and production skills in real-world settings.
• Theatre Visits: Trips to local and national venues enrich classroom learning and offer enjoyable social experiences.
• Cultural Tour: A biennial week-long visit focused on drama and the arts, including shows, gallery visits, and cultural landmarks.
We also offer opportunities for leadership and lifelong skills:
• Creative Leadership: Pupils are encouraged to direct, produce, and mentor younger pupils.
• Public Speaking & Confidence: Drama helps pupils develop communication, empathy, and resilience, skills that are invaluable for university and beyond.
• Cultural Literacy: Through performance and travel, pupils gain a deeper understanding of the world around them.
Drama at Merchant Taylors’ is more than a co-curricular opportunity, it is a transformative experience that builds confidence, fosters creativity, and creates lasting memories.
