Careers
Careers education is a vital part of the Sixth Form experience at Merchant Taylors’, equipping pupils with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to make informed decisions about their future. Our careers programme is designed to be forward-thinking, personalised, and responsive to the evolving world of work, ensuring that every pupil is well-prepared for life beyond school.
From the start of the Lower Sixth, pupils benefit from a structured programme of careers guidance that includes one-to-one interviews, workshops, and access to a wide range of resources. We help pupils explore their interests, identify potential career paths, and understand the qualifications and experiences required to achieve their goals. Whether they are considering university, apprenticeships, gap years, or direct entry into employment, our team provides expert support every step of the way.
A key strength of our careers provision is the involvement of our highly engaged alumni network, who regularly return to share their experiences, offer mentoring, and provide insight into a wide range of industries. Visiting professionals also deliver talks on topics such as CV writing, interview techniques, networking, and workplace expectations, helping students to develop the practical skills they need to succeed.
Pupils are encouraged to take part in work experience placements, volunteering, and enrichment activities that enhance their employability and broaden their horizons. We also support applications for competitive schemes such as degree apprenticeships, internships, and summer schools.
At Merchant Taylors’, we believe that careers education is about more than just choosing a job, it is about discovering passions, building confidence, and preparing for a fulfilling and purposeful life.
