A Christmas Round-Up from the Junior Boys

It’s beginning to look a bit like Christmas, as the song goes, in the Boys’ Junior School. Our Christmas Tree that was decorated by the School Councillors is presently on display in St Faith’s Church as part of their Christmas Tree Festival. This year the tree is supporting Breast Cancer Awareness and is festooned in all manner of decorations – all pink – to highlight this wonderful charity. The tree (and many others too!) can be seen by the general public; it is quite a sight!
The Year 4 (and Year 3) play is coming along nicely. Charlie and Jim and the Chocolate Factory follows the well-known Roald Dahl story. We have two boys who win the golden ticket (Charlie and his brother Jim) and are shown around the factory by the Wonka brothers (that’s Willy and Walter!). The boys have been rehearsing so very hard and it promises to be a great show. Tickets can be obtained by contacting Mrs Hodson, the Junior School Secretary.
There are other things happening too. Christmas lunch is happening next Thursday and rumour has it that there is a VERY special guest popping in to spread Christmas greetings. We have turkey and all the trimmings – one of the highlights of the school year. The boys traditionally make Christmas hats and these are worn during the lunch and are a sight to see, if previous years are anything to go by.
Our visit to the pantomime takes place soon too. This year we are off to the Liverpool Everyman Theatre to see Beauty and the Beast, a Rock ‘n’ Roll show. The whole school travels in to town next Monday morning, wearing their Christmas jumpers and I can imagine that excitement levels will reach fever pitch. When we return we will be having our Christmas parties. It will be a great day.
The following day the PTA have arranged a Christmas Party after school. It is all taking place in the Sports Centre and we hope that everyone who joins in will have a great time.
On the last day of term we have our annual Christmas service in St Faith’s Church. We sing carols, listen to readings about the nativity and really start to celebrate the Christmas season.
So as you can see, there is a lot going on in our Junior School and I hope that you will be able to join us sometime before the end of term.

Some more snaps from across the weekend in Japan 📸
Our RAF cadets enjoyed a brilliant weekend away at Our RAF cadets enjoyed a brilliant weekend away at Inskip Camp, getting stuck into everything from command tasks and air rifle shooting to low ropes, field cooking, drill and first aid.

The highlight was a night exercise under the stars, rounded off perfectly with a well-earned hot chocolate (and a swirl of squirty cream, of course!) ☕

Well done to everyone involved, it was a fun, challenging and rewarding few days, and the recruits have every reason to feel proud.

A special thank you to our brilliant volunteers and staff for giving up their weekend to make it all happen, we couldn’t do it without you.

They also learned about the tragic story of the Daigo Fukuryu Maru - a tuna fishing boat whose crew were exposed to radioactive fallout following U.S. hydrogen bomb testing after the war - an experience that brought history vividly to life.

In the afternoon, pupils explored Tokyo’s old town, Asakusa, where they visited traditional temples, sampled local dishes and enjoyed some shopping among the bustling streets 🇯🇵🛍️✨
Our Sixth Form pupils and staff marked Halloween t Our Sixth Form pupils and staff marked Halloween today with a spooky dress-up day, raising funds for Queenscourt Hospice.

The Common Room was transformed for the occasion, and pupils enjoyed joining in with party games for Year 7, as well as visiting the Prep School, where their costumes were met with plenty of smiles.

It was a great way to end the half term - full of fun, creativity and community spirit, all while supporting a very worthy local cause 🎃👻

Friday morning began with a well-earned rest and a Friday morning began with a well-earned rest and a delicious breakfast overlooking the Tokyo skyline - a perfect mix of Japanese and English favourites to start the day.

After breakfast, pupils enjoyed a peaceful stroll through Ueno Park, taking in the lily ponds, cherry tree walkways and traditional temples before heading back through the city streets for a quick turnaround.

The group then travelled to Daito Bunka University, where they spent the afternoon sharing stories, learning from Japanese students and presenting gifts on behalf of Merchant Taylors’. It was a fantastic opportunity for cultural exchange and new friendships.

The day ended with a Japanese BBQ dinner and some free time for a little independent shopping, before returning to the hotel to rest ahead of tomorrow’s adventures exploring local temples by train.
