Year 7 Entrance Assessment 2026

We look forward to welcoming pupils to Merchant Taylors’ for our Year 7 Entrance Assessment on Friday 6 November 2026.

The assessment is a computer-based Cognitive Ability Test designed to give us an insight into each child’s natural reasoning and problem-solving skills.

It includes three short sections, each of which lasting around 40 minutes:

• Verbal Reasoning
• Non-Verbal Reasoning
• Quantitative Reasoning

No preparation is required for this test as it is designed to measure innate ability; details of the sections covered can be found HERE. Whilst no preparation is required, sample papers can be purchased from GL Assessment HERE.

Timings and practical information for the day will be confirmed by our Admissions Team nearer the time.

Academic Scholarships

During the Entrance Assessment, all candidates will be considered for an Academic Scholarship. Those who fall within the top 25% will be invited to an Academic Scholarship Day the following Saturday when they will undertake further subject based assessments in both Maths and English. They will also attend an interview with a member of our Senior Academic Team.
