Digital Learning

At Merchant Taylors’, we never stop learning, and in recent years we have invested significantly in our digital and remote learning technology to ensure that pupils receive an excellent, forward-thinking education, no matter the circumstances.

1:1 Device Strategy

Autumn Term 2022 marks a significant turning point in the history of Merchant Taylors’ School as we embark on a new digital age of education with the roll out of our individual 1:1 Devices Strategy for all senior school pupils.

This new initiative will be phased in over the next two years and has been shaped by the feedback we received from the pilot trials and research undertaken with staff, pupils and parents. By September 2023, all pupils in Years 7 -11 will have a 1:1 device.

The aim of this new approach is to further enhance the digital literacy and skills of all Merchant Taylors’ pupils in a world that demands flexibility and supports our efforts to become a Microsoft Showcase School in the coming years. Today’s world requires a new focus on active learning, innovation, critical thinking and problem solving. Developing these skills will challenge us as a School to develop our curriculum model and how we deliver our lessons in the classroom and beyond.

Remote Learning

Our commitment to digital investment came to the fore during the Covid-19 lockdown period, where the vast majority of our children were unable to attend the school site for many months, although we were of course open for the children of key workers.

We were able to provide online teaching and support every day to every pupil who remained at home, across all year groups including primary school, thereby minimising any interruption to their education.

Our dedicated staff delivered up to 500 live sessions per day, ranging from whole-class lessons and tutorials to formal assessments and one-to-one support.

We were delighted with the level of engagement among pupils and we have also spent time reviewing our technology to find further areas for improvement.

We are proud of our remote learning capability and we have great confidence that we are well-equipped to assist pupils handle any future challenges we may face together.
