Merchant Taylors’ concludes £1.25m summer refurbishment
Merchant Taylors’ School has completed a £1.25m upgrade of its property and estates.
Central to the work is a design-led redevelopment of the dining halls and kitchen facilities at both its Boys’ and Girls’ School sites, delivered by CDS Wilman alongside the school’s catering partner, Chartwells.
The Williams Hall, which sits at the heart of the Grade II-listed main building of Merchant Taylors’ Boys’ School, has also undergone an extensive refurbishment, led by Amspec. The works include new stage and audience furnishings, revamped flooring, enhanced lighting and internal redecoration. Theatre specialist Torpedo Factory Group has also installed a suite of new high-specification AV technology, funded in part by the school’s Old Boys’ Association.
The historic independent school, which celebrates its 400th birthday next year, has also enhanced its fire alarm and detection provision across the estate. The safety works, delivered by Sefton Arc, include the installation of a category L2 ‘Life Protection’ fire alarm system. The school has also upgraded its IT infrastructure and revamped many of its communal areas and student facilities.
Lynn Hill, finance and operations director at Merchant Taylors’ School, said: “The new dining rooms at both senior school sites have undergone a stunning transformation, much to the delight of staff and students alike.
“As proud custodians of this magnificent school, we are also thrilled with the new-look Williams Hall and the opportunity to use advanced technology to further enhance our drama and music productions for many years to come. We are extremely grateful to the Old Boys’ Association for their generous support.
“The majority of our summer investment has consisted of one-off special projects that we feel are crucial to ensure that Merchant Taylors’ remains the finest school in the Liverpool city region and continues to provide the very best environment and education for our students.”
