At Merchant Taylors’, we are proud of our long-standing reputation for academic excellence. Our Sixth Form curriculum is designed to challenge, inspire and prepare pupils for the next stage of their educational journey, whether that be university, apprenticeships, or the world of work.
We offer a broad and rigorous A Level programme, taught by subject specialists who combine deep academic expertise with a genuine passion for teaching. Their commitment to each pupil’s success fosters strong, respectful relationships and creates a learning environment where intellectual curiosity and academic ambition thrive.
A Level study at Merchant Taylors’ is both demanding and rewarding. Our pupils consistently achieve outstanding results, with more than two-thirds of all grades awarded at A*-B and nearly 40% at A* or A. These outcomes reflect not only the dedication of our pupils and staff but also the personalised support and high expectations that underpin our academic ethos.
Beyond the classroom, pupils are encouraged to extend their learning through academic competitions such as the Oxford Physics Challenge, the Biology and Chemistry Olympiads, and the Ethics Bowl. Many also undertake the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), which promotes independent research and critical thinking, skills that are invaluable for university-level study and beyond.
Our curriculum is enriched by a wide portfolio of co-curricular opportunities that develop leadership, communication and personal confidence. Pupils participate in music and drama performances, the European Youth Parliament, and debating societies, all of which broaden their intellectual horizons and foster a spirit of collaboration and creativity.
We also offer exceptional opportunities for personal development through the Combined Cadet Force and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme. Many of our pupils go on to achieve the prestigious Gold Award, a testament to their resilience, initiative and commitment.
At Merchant Taylors’, our Sixth Form curriculum is more than a pathway to qualifications, it is a foundation for life. We aim to nurture well-rounded, thoughtful and ambitious young people who are ready to make a meaningful contribution to the world around them.
