Mathematics is an extremely popular subject in the school. It is taught by a team of five full time mathematicians. There are five Mathematics teaching rooms. In Year 7 Mathematics is taught in form groups, but from Year 8 to Year 11 girls are taught in sets. Girls take Edexcel’s IGCSE Mathematics Examination at the higher tier. Where appropriate, more able girls in Year 11 also study the AQA Further Mathematics GCSE-level Certificate.
Maths clinics are run both at lunchtime and after school to support any pupil whenever necessary. Over half the Sixth Form normally choose to study Mathematics. They follow the AQA syllabus. There is considerable flexibility available in the combination of modules studied. The opportunity also exists to study sufficient modules to achieve either AS or A2-level Further Mathematics. All members of the Department teach in the Sixth Form.
