About Our School
Merchant Taylors’ is one of the oldest and most highly-respected Girls’ Schools in the North of England.
We have a proud record of helping girls to achieve academic success, an extensive programme of enrichment and co-curricular opportunities and an environment that values care and respect for others.
When girls join us in Year 7, they are encouraged to explore fresh interests, take part in new activities, broaden their horizons and make new friends. We support girls to understand the ways in which they can grow as young women of the future by giving them opportunities and challenges and the tools to thrive.
Our girls excel at a variety of pursuits outside the classroom, from maths to music, netball to Nitzche, we set no limit on what they can achieve. Our Combined Cadet Force, shared with the Senior Boys’ School, is the largest contingent in the UK and our girls currently account for more than 50% of cadets.
Our dedicated and talented team of teachers and support staff build close bonds with girls which often last well beyond the time they leave school. We love nothing more than to see our girls return to school as confident, successful young women, willing to give their time and advice to current pupils, support their education through bursary funding, or simply reconnect with old friends and mentors through our highly active alumni network.
The young women who leave our school are well-equipped to pursue a variety of successful careers and become the articulate, compassionate and intelligent leaders of tomorrow.
