About Our School
Merchant Taylors’ has provided an excellent education to boys ever since its foundation in 1620.
Our school is built upon a fine record of academic attainment underpinned by a broad range of co-curricular activities and a learning environment that values care and respect for others.
From the moment boys arrive in Year 7, they are encouraged to develop their friendship groups, explore new areas of interest and broaden their personal horizons. We help boys to understand the potential they have within themselves how they can unlock that in ways that are bespoke to their own skills and needs.
The opportunities for boys to grow extend way beyond the classroom and boys excel at all manner of enrichment and co-curricular pursuits, including the CCF (Combined Cadet Force), major drama productions, national maths competitions or sports such as rugby, cricket, football or hockey.
Every boy will follow their own path to their own destination and our highly motivated and talented staff are there to guide them along that journey. Teachers and pupils develop bonds that stay with them long after they leave our care and we are proud of the lifelong relationships we have with our Old Boys across the generations, many of whom return to school regularly to support existing pupils with careers advice or by donating to our bursary fund.
The young Merchants’ men who leave our school are well-equipped to pursue a variety of successful careers and enjoy bright futures as intelligent, compassionate citizens of the world.
