Boys and girls are encouraged to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme from Year 10 and many achieve success in Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.
Intrepid groups of explorers take on Duke of Edinburgh expeditions in locations such as the Lake District, Clwyd and Denbighshire.
Support and advice is available for all sections of the award and training is given for expeditions after school one evening a week. Training days are also organised in the spring term to practise the skills learnt during the in-school training sessions.
Expeditions often take place during school holidays and not only do they help pupils to develop skills such as leadership and independence, they also cement friendships and bonds that can last a lifetime.
