PSHE

We provide a safe and supportive learning environment where the girls can develop their confidence to ask questions, express their views and opinions and put what they have learned into practise in their own lives.
Pupils who are emotionally healthy do better at school. PSHE education helps young people to achieve their potential by supporting their wellbeing and tackling issues that can affect their ability to learn, such as anxiety or unhealthy relationships.
PSHE is in a unique position in that it is a statutory requirement in schools but not an examined subject so as a school, there’s flexibility to adapt and change to fit our individual needs.

Key Stage 3

Form tutors are responsible for the delivery of most PSHE sessions with the exception of Sex Education which is delivered by a group of specialist teachers. Some topics are age-appropriate and are delivered in secure, safe environment, whereas other topics require a whole-school approach. Where possible, links are made with various agencies with a view to providing the girls with a broad-reaching curriculum. We are also in a very fortunate position that we can also have themed assemblies which compliment the scheme of work.

All years follow the Thematic model of PSHE which consists of the following:

• Health & Wellbeing
• Living in the wider world
• Relationships

There are also other areas of expertise used, particularly when discussing career opportunities and sensitive topics, such as Mental Health. Pupils are also involved in charity fundraising and awareness days via regular assemblies and are keen to participate in these activities.

RSE

Relationships and Sex Education is about learning about ourselves – our emotions, our identity, our relationships, sexuality, sexual health and behaviours. We wish for all young people to move safely from childhood, through adolescence into adulthood and to develop respect for themselves and others.

It will be possible for parents to withdraw their children from the teaching of Sex Education (with the exception of that which is taught in the science National Curriculum), but parents will not be able to withdraw their children from the teaching of Relationship Education.
